ABOUT MESA:

In July of 1999 the Magnuson Environmental Stewardship Alliance (MESA) and the Seattle Audubon Society began enhancing the habitat of Promontory Point starting with planting and saving native Northwestern plants, shrubs and trees.

At one time the Navy used this 25-acre area in the southern part of the park as firing range. Over the years this unique area was neglected and became overgrown with invasive plants.

An 18-month volunteer-driven effort began the work of restoring Promontory Point to a more natural setting. We worked to build several critical trails, install new signs, constructed the Education Pavilion and led the design and creation of the Northwest Native Butterfly Garden.
